How does a group interview at Chapters work?
Q. Next week, I have an interview at Chapters (the book store). I have been notified that the interview is a group interview (which means more than one potential employee is being interviewed at a time). I was just wondering, if anybody has any advice on preparation for an interview like this. Has any one been interviewed there before, or heard anything about their interviews? If so, do you have any tips..pointers...etc? ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

A. Be honest in your answers. Don't interrupt one of the other interviewees. Be positive. Display your knowledge of best sellers, and your love of reading. Be prepared to affirm how you will be good for the job, and how the job will be good for you. Dress conservatively, most employers don't like piercings, unless, of course, you are applying for a job in a sex shop.

How long after the interview should I wait for a job offer?
Q. It's been over a week. The initial feedback from the recruiting agency was that everyone was impressed with my resume and my interview. I need work, sooner rather than later, and the bills aren't going away. While I have applied to other positions, this has been the only one that has interviewed me in over 3 weeks. At what point do I simply chalk the interview up to 'experience' and put all of my energies in a different direction?

A. With people taking vacations and being on business trips and the whole corporate bureaucracy being subject to various variants, you can get an offer months after you interview. The norm is for them to respond within a week, but things do happen. If I were you I would inquire in an email, emphasizing how excited you are and what a good fit you think you would be. Leave it open ended so they can say no right now, maybe later.

How soon after an interview do you start working?
Q. I have an interview soon for a part-time retail job and I was just wondering how soon after the interview date I will start working/training. Right away? A few days? A week? I know it's different for everyone, but in general how long does it take? Thanks. Sorry, I should have said this earlier-I know I'm not guaranteed a job, but the question assumes I am hired.

A. It depends it you get the job first, then 2days to 2weeks on average, I started a job the next day before it just depends on how desperate they are for staff.
